Isn't it ironic?

Don't you think?

I had to take a while to process my thoughts on the announcements from Whitehall yesterday. Two of the top five government officials leading the fight against Covid-19 revealed that they have tested positive for the virus, and a third is self-isolating as they are exhibiting symptoms.

The irony isn't lost on anybody. For the past month or more, we have been receiving advice from these people on the best ways to limit our chances of contracting the virus ourselves. We have listened to their advice and their instructions to stay home and save lives. We have not been in close contact with family and friends to protect them and us.

And so it begs the question (which undoubtedly shall remain unanswered):  WHERE IS THE EVIDENCE THEY HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THEIR OWN ADVICE?

It has to be asked. We are all also aware that while they had taken precautions, those they have worked most closely with haven't necessarily done the same. But, let's not forget that press conference from Boris Johnson where he was pleased to tell us he had been at a hospital which was treating covid-19 patients and had shaken everyone's hand. And now he's tested positive for the virus.

Hardly comforting viewing now, is it? It wasn't at the time, to be frank, even if it did cause a few chuckles initially. In fact, it's really uncomfortable to see our highest power dumb down the dangers at that point. He knew better. Yet we wonder why the public didn't take too much notice of the measures before lockdown was announced? I've commented on the contributing factors that gave us lockdown previously, but genuinely think there was a mixture of government manipulation, public reluctance and public stupidity. None of which was helped by our prime minister being an oaf.

I was disheartened on the night of 12th December when the exit polls predicted the outcome of the latest general election. However, I decided that the soundbites created by the Mr Johnson, his backstage staff and his colleagues needed to be allowed the time to be made reality. It was a gauntlet thrown down to "Get Brexit Done" after all.

Ha. Remember that? Remember Brexit? There appears to be absolutely nothing happening with that right now - is that going to lead to another extension of some sort? The sort of extension that if sought would result in Mr Johnson preferring to be dead in a ditch? That may be a bit harsh given the current situation the country is in. And yet we ponder...

I just find it hard to have faith in those that are leading us right now. I want to be proved wrong. I really do. I guess my anxiety of levels of the post-covid era is already setting in following the announcements of yesterday.

Be kind. Stay safe.
